Final essay

The event that we have studied that have he greatest impact on making South Central La what it is today is basically all the events.The top 3 events that we’ve studied that hold the greatest impact on making South Cenral and La2 what it is today is the Watts riot,La riot, and the crack epidemic.I chose wats riots because watts is where i grew up at. I’ve lived in watts all my life and i think that its important to know about. I chose La riots beacusei consider watts apart of La. I think that La is a imporant place to know about because some of us go to La every day. I chose crack epidemic because that is really important and people still to this day use crack. Crack is still a mojor problem in South central.Families are getting torn apart behind crack.Crack is the cause of alot of deahs and incarceations.

The Watts riot started in Augus 11,1965. It took place on 116th and avalon.It started because a man name Marquette Frye got pulled over by a white officer and was told to take a sobritety test.He refused to take it and him and the police officer began fighting.They were surrounded by about 300 people.The crowd of people started the riot.On he 3rd day of the riot 103rd street was burned down to the ground and the residence named it the “Charcoal alley”.In the end of the riot 34 people died,118 people suffered gunshot wounds,and there were $40 million dollars in damage.The riot also spreaded to San diego,Pasadena,Pacoima,Monrovia,Longbeach,and wilmington.The riot ended with the National Guards.

La riots started in 1992.On March 3 1991,Rodney King was pulled over for speeding in Lake View Terrace in the San Fernando Valley.He led a short pursuit because he knew being pulled over would be violating his parole.The police said he was on drugs which he wasnt.They beat him severly for 15 minutes.He suffered from skull fractures,broken bones,broken teeth,and perminate brain damage.On march 16,1991 a 15 year old black girl named latasha harlins went into a liquor store to buy some orange juice.A korean owner accused her of stealing and tried to take i out of her back pack as she turned around JaDu,the store owner picked up a gun from behind he counter and shot her in the  back of the head.In October 1991 instead of incarceration JaDu was given probaion and forced to pay a $500 fine.On April 29,1992 the police that beat Rodney King was found “not guilty”.Thats when the rio started.It started on Florence and Normandie there were 53 deaths,and over $1 billion in damage this riot went to San francisco,Oakland,Las vegas,Seatle,and chicago.

Thw crack epidemic started on the early 1900”s in Nicaragua.A country in Central America.A man named Augusto Cesar Sandio from Nicaragua led it.Ronald Regan fond a solution to sell crack cocaine in the ghettos of the US.To use the money to supply weapons to fights the commonist Sandinisas.In 1981 the CIA helped ship cocaine from El Salvador to Texas and Arkansas to La.The CIA sold drugs to drug dealers and sent the money to buy weapons for Nicaragua.Black and Brown gheos were targeted because they were poor.The CIA was scared because the unemployment so hey got people addicted so they couldnt think properly.Most crack dealers were not distrubuting throungh gangs.Many were ordinary people trying to support heir families.

I chose those 3 events because they are important o know about,The crack epidemic is serious and crazy because its all behind the governtment.The La and Watts riots started because of racism and harrassment.Many people rioted for many purposses.Crack was one of the most important that effect our community.

First Day On Wix
